Design is the reason we were born in 1999 – to create beautifully designed products for digital. Over our 17 years, digital design has matured and now encompass a multitude of skill-sets and disciplines from User Experience and Interface design through to Digital Branding.

Design for impact

We have a simple mantra – Design for impact. Everything we do from a design perspective has the objective of positive impact; we define this as anything from commercial impact, through better conversion rates, to improved NPS or SUPR-Q scores.

Consideration of impact forces us to demonstrate measurable success as we transform your objectives into successful experience outcomes – this applies to planning research methodologies through to moving the final pixel placement on a new digital product. 

A user-centred design approach

Central to our design proposition is de-risking our digital products. We do this by championing a user-centric approach with our clients. In practice, this means collaborating with your users to understand what they want and how they want to interact with your organisation; through to validating our design thinking with real users as early as possible.

Atomic design

At ORM, we run a true atomic design methodology. In the initial phase, this means we convert business requirements and core user journeys to a component list; this list then forms the basis of our scope for the delivery. We validate this list within our discovery phase with real users, via a variety of means; from surveys to interviews.

Our next task is to create a governance model around these components by identifying page templates and mapping permissions and rules around what can be used where. This ensures that the design aesthetic and flow of our digital product remains intact long after we have transferred ownership of it to you.

We then use multi-disciplinary teams to create the components, and therefore pages and journeys, that define the digital experience. Typically this is a single team of UX, design and development each working together to maximise the potential of our solution.

Lean design principles

We use lightweight design software such as Sketch and online prototyping tools, creating design pattern libraries that offer a single place to update the whole layout. We then create clickable prototypes, for mobile or desktop, which allow end users and clients alike to explore our creations.
